Y-FEM is an organisation that aims to make sure that human rights are protected and upheld particularly for groups that have historically been oppressed and vulnerable. Through innovative activism, storytelling and advocacy programs, Y-FEM aims to capture the uniqueness of the feminist movement in Africa and the various contexts within the continent.
The organisation also serves as a resource hub and source of guidance and support for feminist activists and organizations in Namibia, providing necessary materials such as;
Procurement of legal research for human rights issues affecting AGYW
Translating contextual barriers
Mentorship and support for grassroots activists and new feminist organizations
Publishing
The Y-FEM research is mainly focused on keeping the government accountable to its people by regularly assessing whether or not the laws in place;
Fully meet the needs of and protect adolescent girls and young women
Are effective and useful
Are being implemented and enforced successfully
Y-FEM is also interested in aiding any young feminist researchers regarding any research or study that is related to or useful to the feminist movement in Namibia.
Young Feminists Movement Namibia is a space for learning, unlearning, growing and sharing; co-creating, dreaming a space for generating new feminist knowledge; a space for nurturing our courage and creativity, making the personal political and developing our voices; a space for sisterhood, solidarity and healing.
Y-FEM brings this space available to young women in various communities through individually developmental workshops, providing a platform to facilitate safe-spaces and wellness dialogues for women and through the co-ordination of many welcoming and inclusive events.
Y-FEM also provides access to mental health support from licensed professionals to feminist activists.
